Mauri (Hello) Everyone,

I'm Tekonnang Timee from Kiribati. I have just joint the School-Based Teacher Development Programme (SBTD) at the beginning of this year 2019. I am working as a local consultant supporting the monitoring and evaluation of the SBTD Programme in Kiribati, which means I am working closely with Bob on this particular task.

Professionally, I am an educator and have been in the teaching field for almost 20 years. My teaching career begins as a teacher for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Kiribati. Recently, I am a fulltime lecturer at the Kiribati Teachers' College (KTC) where I taught Education courses.

it is nice to meet you and privilege for me to work with you for COL.

Mauri Tekonnang

pleased to meet you too.   I work for SchoolNet South Africa  - we are also busy with the Teacher Futures programme in the Eastern Cape of South Africa.  We are a few months into our first year and have completed our Stakeholder Forum as well as having started an online professional development course for lecturers at the University of Fort Hare in ICT integration

(Commonwealth Certificate for Teacher ICT Integration)

For the past two weekends, we have been conducting face to face professional development for digital learning with teachers at the 10 schools in the project  - and establishing a range of professional learning networks with the intention that teachers will enjoy the interaction on the Teacher Futures platform as well.

I would be very interested to hear how teachers and lecturers are faring in Kiribati

kind regards

Janet

Mauri Janet,

Thank you for sharing what you have been working on in South Africa. From my end, I cannot say much as I am new to the changes here at the Kiribati Teachers' College. From my limited knowledge, I could see that KTC is moving forward. I could say this since we are using moodle as a new platform for delivering our courses and conducting online professional development to the in-service teachers. Last year 2018, those schools that participated in the Teacher Futures Programme (TFP) they used moodle to access online courses (CPD courses).

Thanks also to Anouk for supporting KTC on this. She's being assisting lecturers to upload their courses on moodle. I believe she can talk more on this from her side.

Anyway, thanks again for asking about Kiribati.

Best regards

Tekonnang

It is a privilege for me to meet you also in person.

Thank you for asking about the trial. Yes, the trial went well as planned. We did the trial at one JSS here. We did the observation only as I feel they need more practice with this tool. The enumerators managed to observe one class each. After the observation, we had a short discussion regarding the issues they encountered when they observed. I had time to clarify again to the enumerators how to record the teacher's behavior during their observation. I told them to observe carefully the 4 minutes interval and should clear their minds during the observation.

Safe trip back home and hope to see you again at KTC.

Cheers
