I use the PMS tool such as the SLA forms, templates, or the manual to assess the teachers performance in terms of attendance, record keeping and assessments in the classroom.
I make sure teachers are sensitised on the tool to agree on the indicators mentioned above by signing with the supervisor/SM. The tool is use to ensure accurate feedback is given showing areas of strength and improvement. It helps me to make follow upon the teachers development plan to identify areas where support is needed. The data helps me to make decisions on the curriculum for school base trainings to be done on gaps identified.
Challenges in collecting or interpreting PMS data an how I addressed them.
Some teachers find it challenging to understand the indicators on the tool as such they cannot interpret them and so they are late in submitting the forms to be summerised for onward submission. As the head I conduct short induction training for the teachers , give them support during completing the tool and set deadline for them to submit.
Ways PMS can promote accountability quality assurance in my school.
I use the PMS data in SMT and Staff meetings to guide in decision making especially areas where support is needed, provide support in resources where needed and recognise and reward teachers for working hard.
A scenario where applying PMS principle helped improve perfformance.
Last year, as the Headteacher I realised that the grade 5 NAT result in Science was very low. I found from the thematic graph that pupils struggle to and answer questions relating to diagrams. The teachers in a meeting with me agreed to bring some concrete diagrams to class to show children. Monitoring to be strenghten for both the SMs and the HT. The teachers records need to be checked regularly and support to be given.
At the end both the school admin using the PMS tool are confident that the NAT result for this year will be satisfactory.
