Unit 11 Discussion: Leading with care - Guidance and counselling in schools

Here are practical leadership strategies ahead teacher can use to integrate counselling in to daily school life even when there are few trained counsellors  1Build basic counselling skills such as active listening, showing empathy, respecting confidentiality and knowing when to refer serious cases. 2 Crate a save and supportive school culture, encourage kindness, respect and trust. Penalize bulling and discrimination and praise good behaviour  publicly  3  Identify responsible learners and trained  them as peer monitors and prefects. 4 Include counselling in school activities such as morning assemblies,  religious classes and club activities. 5 Lead by example. when leaders listen, show care,  so emotional issues seriously  and speak respectfully staff and learners will do the same. Even with limited trained staff, a school can provide counselling by making  it everyone's responsibility.
