Forum 6: Conducting your baseline study
There will be several discussion threads in this forum.
1. Preparing to conduct a baseline study.
This is for all those who are about to embark on their TFP work and will need to conduct a baseline study before any development work with teachers and schools begins. It will include the overall M&E strategy, of which the baseline study will be part. This, at the moment, involves those in Cohort B. However, forum participants involved in Sierra Leone and Kiribati have much to contribute to this as they have been involved in preparing and conducting a baseline on the ground; a much richer experience than people sitting in Canada and the UK imagining the situation!
2. M&E Documents.
Any questions and discussions associated with the documents provided in the Resource Section can be conducted here. Discussion of how these documents are used in the field will be better conducted in the other discussion threads (‘Preparing to conduct a baseline study’ and ‘Conducting the baseline study’).
3. Conducting the baseline study.
As the title indicates, this will deal with the practicalities of conducting a baseline study, in particular, collecting and entering data. Because collecting pupil achievement data varies so much across countries, this topic will be of particular significance and there will be a sub-thread specifically on this. The other sub-thread will be more generally on collecting data including entering this data into electronic databases.
4. Questions.
The previous three threads try to anticipate the categories of all your concerns and questions, but no doubt some will arise that don’t easily fit them. This thread ‘Questions’ is for these ‘other’ questions. Try to be sparing of its use as we don’t want it too problematic for other participants to locate issues they may be concerned about. Remember, some participants will enter the discussion some time after we all start and the threads can act as an archive of issues that may require their attention.
