Since a school is not headteacher -owned.it is important that the SIP be done inclusively , where every stakeholder will feel considered. The involvement of the teachers earners, parents, and the community ifundamental and headteachers must make sure that they participate in the planning process. Headteachers therefore should use strategies to ensure that they either attend physically, or be represented.
In Wullinkamma Lower Basic School, I use various strategies to involve teachers, learners, parents, and the community.
TEACHERS: First of all , I call for a general staff meeting in which only planning is being discussed, and where they are being sensitised on SIP matters. Then the senior teachers will represent their streams during the planning. This makes them feel valued and motivate ownership.
LEANERS: The learners are involved through clubs, prefects and discussions. They are are made to feel responsible.
PARENTS: PTA/SMC : Conservative and sensitisation meetings on SIP, which allows them to feel ownership, which in turn encourages them to support school activities..
COMMUNITY: This group is sensitised on SIP at PTA meetings and other avenues such as meetings with health workers for WASH Practices.
