As a school in planning SIP, we set out priority areas needed to be improved called prioritised issues for improvement. This will include learners performance in assessments, attendance, professional development for staff, environment, WASH, etc. From the prioritised issues the SIP guides the actions needed for each issue, the resources needed to be allocated and the cost. Through monitoring, gaps are identified where adjustments are needed.
Strategies use to involve stakeholders such as teachers, learners, parents and the community in the planning process.
. Teachers are involve during staff meetings where priority areas are put forward and discussed.
At SMC and PTA meetings, parents and other community members are engaged in setting priority needs for the school.
During extra curricular committee meetings, pupils views are gathered to support in planning.
Challenges
The challenges in implementing the SIP in Brikama LBS includes,
Lack of adequate resources and late disbursements of the SIG funds as some priority issues needs urgency.
The involvement of teachers and pupils during lessons cause setbacks as not much time is given.
Nowadays most SMC members are engage in family matters than school and so to get them on time is mostly a challenge.
Both stakeholders mentioned are sensitised on the importance of the SIP at staff, SMC, PTA and committee meetings.
Examples of successful initiatives
As a school we strengthen professional capacity building for classroom teachers through school based workshops on areas where improvement on lesson delivery is highly needed. Through this teaching is strengthen in the classroom, proper record keeping such as scheme and lesson notes, assessments are given and monitored regularly by senior teachers. As a result, pupils participation in class will improve as well as performance.
Regards
