In my school I use the SIP to assess the current situation in the school and decide on the priority areas for intervention .Most of the time, I ensure that the much needed teaching and learning resources, sanitary materials and human resources are available .I also use it to identify trainin.g needs as well as mentoring and coaching activities for teachers. Pupils performance in NAT can be improved based on the information captured in the SIP., Some funding gap that the school improvement grant cannot cater for can be share with donors, individuals or community based organisations for support
However ,the approaches I take to involve stakeholders in preparing the SIP is to discuss the importance of their participation during SMC and PTA meetings as well as staff meetings .In this way they will take it more seriously because they are going to be part of the decision making body about the SIP ,its implementation and monitoring .Those that will be involved are the administration ,a representative from each grade SMC members mothers' club ,the head boy and girl to .represent the students .The representation of all these stakeholders help to strengthen their commitment to take ownership in school development
One of the challenges i faced in implementing the SIP is a general issue that is the increase in prices of commodities ,The amount of money paid can hardly cater for what we need to run the schools .So I ensure that all materials needed for effective teaching ,water and sanitary materials as well as staff development becomes my top priority areas and the rest follows .Sometimes we raise funds to complement the cost of other activities on the SIP. Mothers' club members also support the the school .
When I took over the school in 2024,I found that one of the classes used for storing MRC Holland Foundation materials was burnt to ashes I included its renovation cost in the SIP. Knowing that it may be difficult to use the grant I wrote donation letters .Some people responded after seeing the SIP while the school organised Muft day to complement the funding gap and now the class is like a new one .Parents contributed and teaching and learning was not interrupted.
