The aspects working well
a. Stand water pip[es found near toilet blocks located boys or girls.
b. Dust bins donated by NGOs placed in front of classroom blocks.
c. Cleaners wash up toilets in the morning before lessons begin.
d. Hand washing kettles place at the kitchen to use before and after meals.
e. Routine picking of litters round the school by caretaker.
Gaps
a. Inadequate water supply from borehole and NAWEC.
b. Funding gaps to provide soap, detergents and other sanitary materials use by cleaners.
c. Not enough toilets available for boys and girls compared to school enrolment as 25 girls per toilet
d. Additional caretaker needed in the school as one available cannot care the school alone.
My personal contribution to strengthen WASH as the Head..
a. Wrote to NGOs and donors for more toilets to be built.
b. advocate for people to apply to be employed as caretakers.
c. advise the SMC to raise funds to extend stand tap heads round the school.
The component of the unit most challenging to me..
Water Supply
Regular testing of water to ensure it is free from conterminants such as bacteria, chemicals or heavy metals.
As a school we are not equip enough to test and the know how unless we hire.
Three action plans.
a. Fund raising to support WASH
b. Sensitization on the importance of WASH to pupils and parents.
c. Writing to donors to support build more toilets for children
