Baati Ndarr LBS is a school in Upper Saloum District, RED 5N has a very poor WASH facilities currently with a roll of 310 students, 103 boys and 207girls has two separate toilets with six pits per gender with most of them without doors with holes on the floor. Also looking at the water facility available is a hand pump (FRG type) as the only source of clean water and it's not user friendly especially the young and disable children because it's too high small and disable children and also very heavy for children to draw water for use. As a result, WASH has been difficult to in its implementation.
in the above the school leader, we have engaged the SMCs, VDCs and other relevant stakeholders on how they could support the WASH in the school.
1. the first initiative taken was to draw water from the community through digging a water pipe from the community bored hole to have an additional source that would be more friendly to all categories of children.
2. build rams for the toilets to make it accessible to all categories of children and also provide soaps in the toilets with the help of the mothers' club. and also ensures that the school councillors will monitor the soap from been stolen. the caretaker will also ensure that water is available always.
3. create a peer health club with teachers, children and parents inclusive to provide guidance and counselling for students about WASH and its importance and invite community health nurse on health talks in the school.
