Reflection
a. Some WASH aspects are working well in my school, such as having a functional water source, clean toilets, available handwashing basins or containers, and hygiene education supported by teachers or health clubs. However, gaps still exist. these include inconsistent water supply, too few or poorly maintained toilets, lack of soap, limited handwashing containers, weak menstrual hygiene support for girls, and inadequate waste management. Regular monitoring and better maintenance are also needed to ensure a healthier school environment.
b. I have supported WASH improvement by promoting good hygiene practices, supervising cleanliness, reporting damaged facilities, encouraging proper waste disposal, supporting school health/WASH activities., advocating for needed materials, and helping ensure girls` menstrual hygiene needs are addressed.
c. The components that challenged my thinking most were menstrual hygiene management (MHM) and sustaining WASH systems, because they required me to think deeper issues such as privacy, gender-sensitive support, resource gaps, community involvement, and long-term maintenance.
These areas pushed me to reflect on how well my school is meeting learners` needs and what practical steps are needed to improve.
I plan to strengthen hygiene education, monitor and maintain WASH facilities, promote cleanliness, support menstrual hygiene advocate for necessary resources, collaborate with the school health/WASH club, and encourage proper waste management.
