In my school, guidance and counselling is one of the crucial component that I considered deeply.Hence it is crucial, careful planning of guidance and counselling sessions need to be well organised. To address and support learner with distress, the school went on to set up a  guidance and counselling group which involved the school administration, the staff, students and parents as stakeholders. We both worked together on one among other distress that one particular learner faces through

1. One to one discussion method 2. Peer discussion using the school Council body.                      3. Teacher to student relationship 4. Organising talent shows which is connected to distress.

5.The counselling traits that I personally embody most strongly

Confidentiality, Empathy,  Suppotivenes, Non-judgemental and Active listening

The counselling qualities I naturally demonstrated in my day to day interaction are

Empathy,  caring or warmth, active listening showing kindness

The qualities I find challenging

Congruence that is genuineness of information from client and sensitivity of the case

3.How embracing the traits influence wellbeing and growth of learners and staff?

By embracing some of the traits which influence the social, emotional and behaviour of the learning domains, the school authority and parents, staff and students were able to address a case involving a child whose parents were to move to Senegal and the child wanted to stay and continue her education. The parents agreed and this child is still continuing her education.

integrating counselling into the existing school structures will also help and motivate students to join and participate and also include mental health goals in the school improvement plan so as to provide funding for special issues that need financial support.

Dear Mballow,
Indeed I was very impressed in the manner in which you organised your guidance and counselling group consisting of parents, staff and pupil collaborating with the administration to help solve different issues that brings about everyone's well-being.
