Categories of SEN most Visible in my School
In my school the most categories of Special Educational Needs (SEN) include:
1. Learning Difficultly and Intellectual
Disabilities - Learner`s who struggle with reading, writing, numeracy, and comprehension
Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties
( EBD) Some show signs of withdrawal, anxiety, aggression and affect concentration and social interaction.
Sensory Impairments - This visual and hearing impairment, which affect learners`
participation in class activities.
Communication and Learners Needs
Learners with speech delays or language barriers, particularly those from multilingual backgrounds.
Impact on Teaching and Leadership
Classroom Management:
Behavioural challenges require consistence routines, positive reinforcement, and collaboration with counsellors.
Curriculum Adaptation:
Teachers when modify content pacing and provide additional remedial sessions
Inclusive Policy Development
School leader`s must design and enforce clear polices and promote inclusion, equity, and support for learner's with SEN.
2. In my school , learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN) are identified through class teachers and iterant teachers.
.Teacher Observation: Class Teachers closely monitor learners` academic performance participation, and behaviour when a child shows consistent difficulties (e.g., struggling with reading, slow comprehension, or social withdrawal)., the teacher notes these concerns.
2. Support Strategies
We provide the following
1. Remedial and small Group sessions - Struggling learners receive extra lessons or small-group support for literacy and numeracy.
2 Classroom Accommodation: Adjustments such as front seating for those with visual/hearing challenges, extended time in assessments, or use of assistive devices.
3. An Inclusive Classroom in my School
In my school, an inclusive classroom is a welcoming, flexible, and learner-cantered environment where every child- regardless of ability, background, or need - can learn and participate meaningfully.
