I come from Kenya and I am glad to meet with you all and more so excited to see Anouk Janssens-Bevernage whom I have interacted with before.

My role in this program is to support the Teacher Futures Kenya SBTD programme offered by the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), to review resources and facilitate training of education leaders and teacher mentors.

I am currently working as a consultant for GESCI in the  capacity of Education Specialist implementing technology enabled learning in both primary and secondary schools. Previously, I have been manager for Educational Technology and learning resources at the African Virtual University and educational Technologist and Instructional Designer at the Aga Khan University.

Cheers

Hello Elizabeth

Welcome to this group - from Janet in South Africa - I think you are our closest country :-)  and might be the reason why I am familiar with the previous organizations where you have worked - a most impressive track record, indeed.

In the Teacher Futures programme in South Africa we recently completed our Learning Design workshop and managed to cover a lot of content including a strong focus on models for learning design Although topics for our short courses will be primarily around digital learning we hope to include SDGs through the problem-based learning approaches - I am wondering what you are considering in Kenya, Elizabeth?

kind regards

Janet

Hello Janet,

Thank you. Yes. I think so too. I am the closest country to you. I am happy to learn that you are familiar with the organizations where I have worked.  Which learning design models are you focusing on?

In my current job, I use multiple constructivist approaches to learning including problem based learning, Project based learning with a focus to web quests and Inquiry Based Learning.

For Kenya Teacher futures, I am still consulting. The learner needs are quiet varied.

Best regards,

Elizabeth

Thanks for the feedback Elizabeth

Yes, we are also interested in the same learning design models - our stakeholders at the workshop preferred the ASSURE model and Hattie's Visible Learning model. Of course, like you, we will also be using project-based learning and WebQuests.  In fact, we are planning to use some of the content around WebQuests from one of the Commonwealth Certificate for Teacher ICT Integration courses,  http://cctionline.org/courses/planning-learning-through-projects/  but that might have to be later in the programme because many of our teachers are still at an entry level of computer confidence,

kind regards

Janet
