Dear Colleagues,

As part of pre-workshop activities, participants are encouraged to undertake the following:

  1. Make an inventory of PBL varieties (max 5 pages)
  2. Submission date 8th March 2018
  3. Read the suggested literature (ref. attachment)
  4. Conduct a web search for PBL characteristics
  5. Analyse the differences and similarities between the different varieties
  6. Argue your preference for a specific type of PBL

Hello Hanan,

Thank you for sharing this. Would you kindly provide some context for this workshop? Who is attending? What would you like to achieve? What will happen next? Will there be guidance on how to apply the new skills? Etc (sorry for bombarding you with questions :))

Also, do you have a programme for the workshop as well? It would be great to be able to link the pre-workshop activities you kindly shared with us here with an overview of what you are planning to do in the workshop.

Thank you for sharing the article too. I had not come across this one and I like how it gives an overview of the different types.

I wonder if some of this should be brought down to the practical level so that teachers and teacher trainers can easily conceptualize what this looks like in the classroom? Most of the literature comes from the universities and seems to be addressed at a university audience. This is often not very helpful, I find, because the PBL we use in professional development as well as in classrooms in primary and secondary schools is different.

What do you think?
