Reflection:
a) How was success measured?
Success was measured by improvement in students performance,, increased engagement, positive feedback from teachers, students, and faithful implementation of the programme as planed.
b) What data was collected, and how was it used to improve outcomes?
Data on performance, engagement, feedback, an implementation was collected and used to identify gaps, adjust teaching methods, refine the programme and monitor progress to improve outcomes.
c) Using the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) principles from this unit, you could approach a school initiatives differently by:
1 Setting clear measurable objectives; Define what success looks like from the start using specific indicators.
2 Collecting relevant and timely data: Track both academic results and engagement or feedback continuously
3 Using data for decision-making: Adjust teaching strategies, resources, or activities based on the evidence collected.
4 Engaging stakeholders: Involve teachers, students, and parents in monitoring progress and providing feedback.
5 Documenting and reflecting: Keep clear records of what works and what does not to inform future initiatives.
d) Journal Reflection on Implementing a School Initiative
Looking back, implementing the literacy programme in our lower grades was both rewarding and challenging. At the start, I was optimistic about the potential impact, and I could already see the enthusiasm from teachers and students. One of the strength of the process was having a clear focus on improving reading skills. We tracked student performance through assessments, observed classroom participation, and students. Seeing small improvements in reading fluency and engagement was encouraging, and it felt good to witness students gaining confidence in their abilities.
If i were to do this again, I would have apply the monitoring and evaluation principles more deliberately. Setting clear, measurable goals at the beginning would guide both teaching and assessment more effectively . I would ensure data is collected regularly and shared promptly with teachers so that adjustments can be made in real time. Strengthening parental engagement would also be a priority, helping them to become partners in the teaching process. Finally, I would established a structured reflection system, so successes and gaps are documented and can inform future initiatives.
Overall the programme reinforced how important it is combine data, teacher input, and stakeholder involvement. While I am proud of the progress made, I also recognize that using M&E principles more consistently could make future programmes even more effective.
