Current stage of WASH facilities in my school:
1) The school`s WASH facilities are at a developing stage. Clean water is available and always with consistent. Sanitation facilities exist, however, some require improved cleanliness, maintenance, and better separation for boys and girls. Handwashing containers are present but some times lacks soap as some of the children especially ECDs do misplaced the soap pieces of the bar soap that are always placed on the containers without the notice the teachers so that makes it challenging sometimes. Waste management is partially functional, and some areas kept clean while others needs more regular supervision. Menstrual hygiene support is limited and needs strengthening to ensure privacy, adequate materials, and proper disposal . Overall, WASH systems, are improving but still require focused investment, regular monitoring, and stronger hygiene practices to reach a fully satisfactory level.
Improvement i led or would like to lead in WASH
I have helped improve WASH by promoting regular cleaning, encouraging handwashing , and supporting hygiene awareness in the school. Going forward, I want to strengthen access to more clean water, increase handwashing containers with soap, improve toilet maintenance, and enhance menstrual hygiene support for girls through better facilities and materials.
2) I engaged learners, staff and the community in maintaining hygiene standards by assigning clear responsibilities, promoting and daily routines, staff support through supervision , checklists, discussions, and the community contributions, through the SMC/PTA, clean-up activities, sensitisation, and providing resources. This shared involvement creates a culture of responsibility and ensures facilities are well maintained.
