Making School Better with Performance Management

As a headteacher at Yundum Barracks Lower Basic School, I've seen how the Performance Management System (PMS) has helped us improve teaching, supervision, and leadership. We use tools like the Service Level Agreement (SLA) forms, COTs, and performance manuals to guide our teachers and see how well students are doing.

With PMS, we can set clear goals for our teachers, observe their classes in a structured way, and give them feedback. This helps them plan better lessons and teach more effectively. We use PMS to track progress and make sure everyone is doing their part.

But it's not all smooth sailing. Sometimes we struggle to get the data we need because teachers or stream heads don't know how to use PMS properly. To fix this, we held training sessions to teach them how to complete SLA forms, interpret test results, and use that information to improve their teaching.

PMS has really helped us hold ourselves accountable and make sure our school is running well. When teachers know their performance affects how well our students do, they take it more seriously. For example, when we saw that our 3rd and 4th-grade students were struggling with math, we used PMS to figure out where they were going wrong. We even set up mentorship programs where top teachers help less-experienced ones. It worked! Our students did better on their exams, and our teachers said they were more motivated and teamwork-oriented.

In short, PMS is more than just a boring reporting requirement. It helps us make informed decisions, grow as professionals, and do our best for our students. When we use it right, it really changes the culture of our school and drives us to get even better.
