Technology-facilitated gender-based violence is not a big issue in Gambia’s rural basic schools yet. However, there have been some reported cases in our secondary schools involving teachers and students or teachers and women from the communities they work in. It often involves sharing of nude videos between the parties mentioned above.
Addressing TFGBV in schools through open discussions can indeed help minimise its occurrence. Educating students, and parents about TFGBV’s impact can encourage reporting and support. The Headteacher can cite a few cases as reference.
Schools cannot be responsible for online behaviour that occurs outside school hours due to the fact it happens outside of teachers’ working hours. Schools do not have much control over students outside school hours. In addition, schools do not have the authority to monitor students after school hours. Above all, TFGBV is very complex to monitor.
