Dear LAMB Facilitator,
In my school, the aspects of WASH that work well, is as follows:
1. My school has a functional water supply system ensuring access to clean drinking water for all students and staff.
2. We also form a school peer club, which promotes WASH initiatives and encourages students to take ownership of their hygiene practices.
3. My students and teachers do conduct meetings on the school ground to educate other students on WASH.
Here are some of the gaps I face in WASH practices:
1. The WASH materials that are provided at the school is not enough for the population.
2. The school also lack proper dumping side for the waste.
3. The number of toilets are not enough for the students.
4. More time is also needed to educate this young children on WASH.
These are some of the contribution I used in strengthening WASH systems in my school:
1. I participate in the school peer club and support WASH related activities, such as set-settal campaign and hygiene awareness-raising events.
2. I helps in providing of some of the WASH materials for the school like gallons to be used for collecting water and also tins.
3. I am also doing my best to make sure that I get a proper side dumping of waste from the school.
The component of the unit that challenged my thinking the most was the importance of menstrual hygiene management. I realized that my school's sanitation facilities are not adequate to support girls' and women's menstrual hygiene needs leading to exclusion and stigma. This challenged me to think critically about how we can prioritize menstrual hygiene management and supportive environment to all students.
My three concrete actions are:
1. I will collaborate with teacher and students to develop a comprehensive plan to support menstrual hygiene management.
2. I will also collaborate with my teachers and the community to allocate a safe dumping side for the school.
3. I will establish a WASH committee comprising students and teachers to promote WASH initiatives, monitor the progress and identify areas for improvement.
