3 Blended learning with virtual labs

This third module will ask you to delve deeper into virtual labs and simulations and how they can be integrated into blended learning.
You'll be introduced to the concept and principles of blended learning and its application in STEAM education, with guidelines for seamlessly integrating virtual labs and simulations into blended learning environments. You'll also take a few minutes to establish (or expand) an e-portfolio of your work.
At the end of this module's activities, you will be able to:
- explain and integrate the core principles of blended learning and apply them to design STEAM lessons to enhance inquiry, engagement, and accessibility,
- differentiate between key blended learning structures and design appropriate strategies to apply them in STEAM teaching contexts, and
- integrate simulations and virtual labs into blended learning designs that promote inquiry, visualization, and active engagement in STEAM lessons.
There are three discussion forums for this module, where you'll be asked:
- how can you use the principles of blended learning to select activities well-suited for in-person and online teaching?
- how do new teaching roles in blended learning compare to current practice in your teaching context?
- what are the most important factors in selecting simulations for use in your own teaching?

Create your e-portfolio
A key activity in this module is to develop an e-portfolio, where you will be able to collect and highlight your accomplishments in this course and throughout your career.
Creating an e-portfolio is crucial because it moves you from being a passive consumer of course content to an active, reflective designer of learning experiences. It helps you synthesize your learning, build a compelling professional brand as a tech-savvy educator, and creates a reusable resource that will continue to benefit your career long after this course ends.
Create your e-portfolioIf you already have a personal e-portfolio you're able to share here, continue to build on it. If you're new to e-portfolios, we'll recommend a platform for you. Read the introduction to e-portfolios below, then follow the guide to create an e-portfolio, generate a public link, and share it with your fellow participants through the e-Portfolio Directory. |
